Mid/Fleece Layers

The work horse of your outdoor wardrobe, the ubiquitous fleece, or mid layer as it is often called, comes in many guises: Light, mid, or heavy weight, you can buy them with hoods attached, or without, with a full or half zip – you will find a fleece to suit every occasion and pocket. But no matter which thickness or style you plum for, a fleece works best as an added insulation layer, and is designed to keep you warm, comfortable and dry.

Wearing one as a mid layer under a waterproof jacket, a good quality fleece will work hard great at wicking away base layer moisture, and act as a conduit to pass it through to the outer shell layer. More often than not of course, fleeces are used as an outer layer in their own right during warmer, dryer conditions – a true work horse.
